In my dream last night, an angelic presence was telling me, in the sweetest voice, "There is nothing wrong with you." On waking, I lingered with my hands on my heart and belly, and kept that voice going, telling the body and the whole of my being as clearly as possible, "There is nothing wrong with you." The relentless checklist of maintenance and self-improvement initiatives was shocked into remission! My body loved it so much, being received and spoken to like that. After a little meditation and chanting, we opened a Mary Oliver book, landing on her poem "When I Am Among the Trees," which ends with: "You too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine."

So: There is nothing wrong with you. You have come to shine. My your Valentine’s Day be full of play and sensual engagement.

Tantra 112

Yesterday, Dr. Christopher Hareesh Wallis, a sparkling Sanskrit scholar-practitioner, and his team, released a great new meditation app (Tantra 112) based on his original translations of the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra. It reflects the view that the divine is the world and the body, and as such, the app has an utterly unique approach to meditating.

Hareesh held a little launch party at the enchanting Bambu Indah in Ubud, Bali, and he gave a charming teaching, paraphrased here as a Valentine encouragement:

There are five goddesses of the senses, who dwell inside of you. Sight, sound, smell, taste, touch - each one a living śakti. When we give the goddesses beautiful things to see, to hear, to taste, to smell, to feel; when they are sated…. then they relax. In turn, they grace you with the ability to see beauty everywhere you look. Seeing beauty is no longer dependent on the object; it starts revealing itself as a quality of your awareness. The ordinary shimmers. The five goddesses, once satisfied, open your eyes to a world that has been radiant all along. So, to practice this, you intentionally give the eyes something beautiful to rest on, the ears something harmonious to hear, the body something exquisite to feel, the tongue something nourishing to taste, the nose something fragrant to breathe in. As a way of life, the Beauty Way. This aligns beautifully with the field of neuroaesthetics, where the nervous system reorganizes when it is fed coherence and refinement. In tantric language, the sensory śaktis are pacified and elevated.
