I wrote a book and today it is out in the world- almost 400 pages of science and story and magic. It’s connected with Rosebud, and my work on women’s embodiment.
The Nine Lives of Woman: Sensuality, Sexuality and Reproductive Stages from Birth to 100 was fueled by an appreciation for the fecund, potent, outrageously creative, wild, beautiful, ineffable and divine power in a woman’s sexuality- and an understanding of how all the stages of a woman’s life—from birth through the final chapters—are intricately connected, in an evolutionary lineage of experience that moves humanity forward.
The book began with the questions that kept arising in conversations with women of all ages: Why don’t we have a map? Why do we know so little until it hits us? Why don’t our men know anything (or very little) about our bodies? Why is sexiness coveted and sexuality shamed? Why don’t we talk openly about the changes in our bodies, minds, sensuality, and identities across a lifetime? Why are some life stages glorified and others silenced—or pathologized?
The Nine Lives is my response to that call. It’s part field guide, part medicine book. A weaving of science, story, and sacred remembrance. It explores the nine major stages of embodiment in a woman’s life—not just biologically, but spiritually, emotionally, and culturally.
I guarantee that no matter who you are you will learn something new from this work, that may create more empathy, more compassion, more understanding - for yourself or others. And maybe, just maybe, you will be inspired by the potential to live an electrifying, illuminated life well into elderhood.
While each person has a unique signature in this life, and no two lenses on the world will ever be identical, I still sense into a sisterhood that transcends time and place, and into the feminine wisdom of having the capacity to bring new souls into a body. I’m also aware of the systems that want to control this power, through regulation and censorship and shame.
It’s a miracle of our resilient natural intelligence that this flame stays alive in our bodies, that our deep knowing, our intuition and our direct experience keeps burning away the dross of the misguided blocks to everyone’s full love and liberation.
In a time of cultural unraveling and reimagining, we need whole-person, whole-life frameworks that are inclusive, embodied, and life-affirming.
