Happy feast day of Saint Mary Magdalene, the Apostle of the Apostles, the Holy Grail. the wife of Jesus of Nazareth. And why might you ask does this old story matter now to a modern scientific woman? Because story matters. And the story of the Magdalene as a prostitute or whore, when she was actually a teacher and a leader, was conveniently invented by an insane masculine church hierarchy that denied sex, attempted to regulate women's bodies, and denied the miraculous life giving potency of the womb which all earth life is dependent on. It was only in 2016 that her "memorial" day was elevated to a feast, putting her on par with the celebrations of the male apostles. I have nothing against Mary the mother, but she is desexed, passive and disempowered. Religious stories and iconography matter. This legacy of suppression and disrespect and even of demonization follow us even today. Take a moment, put some roses on the table, be thankful for Sex and breasts and periods and the incredible brilliance of women and men needing parts of the other to create life. As equal forces we create life. None alone. None without the other. Equality is a spiritual story as well as a civil one. Her feast, her supper would he feminine. A round table.
