Travel Altars

Packing now and the last thing into the suitcase is my #travelaltar, little reminders to ground in the timeless no matter where I am: bits of earth, threads of lineage, tiny wisdoms, connection, good mood. I first did the box when Shiva and I set out to travel the world in 2016. It’s become a wonderful ritual for me. When I arrive in a new place, the first thing I do is set it up, along with a family photo, and a little paper I carry everywhere with my current goals. I do a little gratitude practice, then sitting meditation to invite my soul to catch up with my body (especially in air travel). I arrive and feel myself. I get a sense of the new space, clear the energy, put on some music, and set my intention for what’s coming next. Then I set up my workspace for the duration- writing, recording, practicing. Do you do a travel altar? What’s on it? (The current edition of the altar box has a small Icelandic crystal; a bit of big island lava from Sundari; a piece of redwood bark from my home; Adam’s pearls from Jaipur; Edwin’s icon of St. Stephen; my grandmother’s lace; a tiny rose quartz Ganesh; a picture of The Magdalene drawn by Joan; a picture from Maya Yoga studio on Maui; a felt mouse; an amethyst and onyx protective bracelet from @[1267188105:2048:Anatoly Volokh] along with his oils; palo santo, a tiny Narmala shivling, tea lights; of course, #Maharaji and Mark Whitwell. AND fresh blossoms from the altar being deconstructed. A chain of blossoms.) Sweet dreams, I’ll be on a plane to Charlotte at 6 am, slowly slowly westward. 😘😘😘 #bhaktilife #travelingshow #thefreeperiod #reverence
